Awoniyi has pulled his weight solidly behind the tournament, and he has sent his best wishes to the players
Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi has sent his best wishes to the teams contesting in the Never Stop Dreaming Cup, a competition he sponsored in Ilorin Soccernet.ng reports.
Awoniyi just like other top footballers had a difficult start to his football career. However, all that is history, as he now plays in the Premier League, albeit at a struggling Nottingham Forest side.
As part of his way of giving back, the 25-year-old attacker has thrown his weight behind the NSDC Cup, a competition organized by Unicorn Football Academy.
The tournament which began on April 26th in Ilorin, Kwara State, will see 26 teams slug it out to emerge Champions on the 7th of June.
First place takes home NGN1 million, second place wins NGN750,000, while the third-best team will win NGN500,000.
Awoniyi has charged the players to put in their best and keep up with their dreams irrespective of what happens.
“Dear players, on behalf of Unicorn Academy, I am pleased to welcome you to the Never Stop Dreaming Youth tournament, ” he said.
“Making it to the top in football is a long and challenging road. However, it always starts somewhere, like as you play in this tournament, a place where it also started for me.
“while only one team will be crowned winner, I hope you remember to express yourself through your football, today and going forward keep it keep giving it your best. And more importantly, remember to never stop dreaming.”
According to OJB Sports, Awoniyi provided kits for all the teams in the tournament. The Nottingham Forest star grew up in Ilorin before moving to Imperial Soccer Academy in Lagos.
