World football governing body FIFA has announced that it has withdrawn the hosting rights of Peru for the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2023.
The decision was made after the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF) failed to fulfill their commitments and complete the necessary infrastructure for the tournament.
FIFA had been collaborating with the FPF, but due to lack of time, they had to make the tough decision of finding a new host for the competition.
While the search for a new host continues, the news is certain to be of concern to the Nigerian football community, especially the Golden Eaglets, who has a remarkable history in the FIFA U-17 World Cup.
The Nigerian team is the most successful in international football for their age group, with a record five FIFA U-17 World Cup titles.
The Eaglets are yet to qualify for the tournament, though.
The Nduka Ugbade-led side will look to qualify for the World Cup with a top-four finish at the U17 Africa Cup of Nations set to hold in Algeria from April 29th to May 19th.
Nigeria, WAFU B champions, have been drawn alongside Morocco, South Africa, and Zambia in Group B.
Head coach Ugbade has promised that his team will perform excellently at the tournament and pick a ticket to the Mundial.
It would be recalled that FIFA removed Indonesia as the host of the FIFA U20 World Cup a few days ago.
