Former Aston Villa gaffer becomes Iheanacho, Ndidi’s coach at Leicester City

The Foxes have been without a gaffer since Brendan Rodgers was sacked last week, and they seem to have found a replacement

Former Aston Villa coach Dean Smith has been appointed as Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi’s coach at Leicester City Soccernet.ng reports.

Leicester City sacked Brendan Rodgers after a run of poor results that saw the former Premier League champions swimming in relegation waters.

The Foxes have been with Adam Sandler as caretaker coach since Rodgers left. But they have lost the two games he has taken charge of against Aston Villa and Bournemouth.

Leicester City has been searching for a new coach to take over the coaching job at the club. former Chelsea boss Graham Potter was heavily linked to the job, but a deal did not materialize.

However, the club announced on Monday that they have appointed Smith as the head coach of the team.

“Leicester City Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Dean Smith as the Club’s First Team Manager until the end of the 2022/23 season,” the club wrote on their website.

Nigerian stars Wilfred Ndidi and Iheanacho have had a troubled season. While Ndidi has struggled with injuries which has affected his playing time, Iheanacho has been third-best to Jamie Vardy and Patson Daka for most parts of the season.

With the arrival of Smith, the Super Eagles stars would hope that their fortunes improve and they help preserve Leicester City’s Premier League status.
