Ex-Chelsea star ‘very happy’ with Lampard’s appointment

Chelsea are experiencing a bad run of play with Graham Potter driving them to their demise in the English Premier League

Super Eagles star, John Mikel Obi, is pleased that Frank Lampard, a former teammate, has been named Chelsea’s interim manager.

The former Nigerian international recalls Lampard’s accomplishments at Stamford Bridge before Roman Abramovich, the previous owner of Chelsea, showed him the exit door.

Chelsea was operating at a standstill under its club legend, with areas that needed development still unaddressed and pricey purchases failing to settle or perform as expected.

The former Stoke City midfielder feels his old comrade can still turn around the Blues’ dismal season, despite Lampard’s recent appointment as the club’s temporary manager.

“Yeah, I’m very happy. I mean, I think the last time he (Lampard) was at the club, he did really well. I think he started really well. He brought the likes of Mason Mount to the club.” Mikel said to Dubai Eye 103.8 Sport

Mikel believes Lampard can offer Chelsea supporters something to rejoice about with fewer than 10 games remaining in the English Premier League, where Chelsea are now ranked eleventh.

“I think if you look at Frank, and if you look at the way he’s been speaking since he came back, I think you can feel maybe there’s a little bit of hope and enthusiasm,” he added.

Chelsea will have a bigger fish to fry when they travel to Santiago Bernabéu to face Real Madrid next Wednesday, but a victory for Lampard will give the fans something to cheer for
