Moffi was superb in the first leg, but he could not help his side salvage anything in the second leg
Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi was unable to score as his Nice side succumbed to a shocking 2-1 extra-time loss to Basel in the quarterfinals of the Europa Conference League.
Soccernet.ng reports that Moffi put up a superb performance for Nice in the first leg at St. Jakob Park last week, scoring twice in the 2-2 draw. And the Super Eagles striker was looking to produce the same brilliance at the Allianz Riviera.
Les Aiglons were favorites to claim the tie, and they showed their dominance from the blast of the whistle.
Moffi thought he had provided an assist for Hicham Boudaoui’s goal in the 8th minute, but it was ruled out for offside.
Nonetheless, one minute later, Nice hit their goal through Gaetan Laborde, but Moffi played an important role in it. The Nigerian striker dispossessed a Basel player, letting the ball roll to Thuram who sent it across to Ramsey to provide the assist for Laborde.
Moffi put himself about on the night. He got into a few good positions, but Laborde was a little selfish on the night and opted to go solo on a few occasions.
Nice dominated the first half, but the complexion changed in the second. Basel got more expressive and they eventually scored and forced the game into extra time.
Moffi was taken off for Nicola Pepe in the 73rd minute. However, the decision did not change the game. A goal from Kasim Adams in extra time ensured that Basel ran out with the 2-1(4-3 aggregate) victory.
