Victor Osimhen could miss crucial AC Milan clash due to a ‘distractive’ injury

The Nigerian international has been spectacular with Napoli this season, scoring 21 goals in 23 league games.

Super Eagles star, Victor Osimhen, could miss SSC Napoli’s crucial game against AC Milan, on Sunday, according to reports.

A new report by his club revealed that the Nigerian star picked up a knock during the Super Eagles’ doubleheader Africa Cup of Nations qualification tie against Guinea-Bissau.

The Nigerian star, who scored four goals in a 10-goal rout of São Tomé and Príncipe in June of last year, returned to the Super Eagles national squad.

After putting up a strong showing in the Parthenopean’s Serie A title campaign in the 2022–23 season, scoring 25 goals in all 29 games for Luciano Spalletti’s team this year.

The Nigerian forward was expected to continue his goal-scoring streak for the Super Eagles side at the international level, but he went scoreless in the two-legged match.

Following the match, the Gli Azzurri claimed that the Nigerian, who is expected to pick up where he left off before the international break, is having left adductor pain.

“Osimhen, since returning with the national team, experiencing discomfort in his left adductor, underwent tests that revealed a distractive injury.” the statement reads.

The former LOSC Lille attacker, who is expected to play against his former colleague and current Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan, could be unable to participate in the match. His injury is expected to need evaluation this following week.

The statement continues: “His condition will be evaluated next week.”

It is anticipated that even if Osimhen misses the Sunday match, he will still be able to challenge his old teammate Maignan with shots on goal since the Neapolitan will play their bitter rivals, Milan, three times in the month of April.
