Union Berlin and USG were held to a 3-3 draw thanks to goals from Victor Boniface in each half
Nigerian forward Victor Boniface has been named the UEFA Europa League Player of the Week after his outstanding performance against Union Berlin.
For their first leg Europa League match, his club, Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, travelled to the Stadion a Der Alten Försterei on Thursday night.
The German and Belgian teams traded goals throughout the six-goal thriller match, with the former Bodo/Glimt star scoring twice.
28 minutes into the game, the ex-Flying Eagles attacker scored his first goal after finding space outside the box and shooting into the upper right corner.
The hosts equalised with a free kick from Josip Juranovic in the first half, then Yorbe Vertessen gave the away side the lead in the second half until Robin Knoche made it 2-2.
In the last 20 minutes of the second half, Boniface gave the opposition the lead with a shot past Frederik Rennow. Sven Michel then came off the bench to tie the game.
Due to his efforts, he was selected as the UEFA Europa League player of the week ahead of Bruno Fernandes (2nd), Edmond Tapsoba (3rd), and Paulo Dybala (4th).
The former Real Sapphire forward has scored 5 goals in 7 Europa League appearances in the 2022-23 campaign.
