Tunisia 0 – 4 Nigeria: Flying Eagles thump Carthage Eagles to clinch historic Afcon U20 bronze medal

The Nigerians completely outclassed their North African foes to finish their Egypt 2023 campaign on a high

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles secured a fourth bronze medal at the CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations by defeating Tunisia’s Carthage Eagles 4-0 in the third-place match on Friday afternoon.

Goals from Ibrahim Muhammed and Ahmed Abdullahi and a brilliant brace from Jude Sunday crushed the resistance of the Tunisians at the Cairo International Stadium.

The Nigerian U-20 national team had the head-to-head advantage over the Carthage Eagles at this tournament, and they went about making it count from kick-off.

Nigeria dominated the match from start to finish, with their attacking prowess and solid defense proving too much for Tunisia.

The Flying Eagles took the lead after only nine minutes, with Ibrahim Muhammed scoring the opening goal.

Shortly after the half-time break, Ahmed Abdullahi doubled Nigeria’s lead with a well-placed finish.

In the 49th minute, Jude Sunday scored a fantastic solo goal to extend the advantage for the Ladan Bosso-tutored side.

And the young midfielder sealed an emphatic victory for the Eagles with a fierce drive on the edge of the box in stoppage time.

With this victory, Nigeria become the nation with the most Afcon U20 bronze medals in history, cementing their reputation as one of the most successful teams in the competition’s history.

Nigeria finished in third place at the 1995, 2009, and 2013 editions of the U20 Afcon.

The Flying Eagles will depart Egypt in the coming hours and shift attention to the FIFA U20 World Cup to be played in Indonesia between 20 May and 11 June 2023.
