The Partenopei needed a hero to turn up on the night, and Osimhen was that man
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen scored the opener for Napoli to guide them to a comfortable 2-0 victory in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League tie against Eintracht Frankfurt.
It was always going to be a tough outing for Eintracht Frankfurt when they welcomed Napoli to the Deutsche Bank Park. With the way Osimhen had been banging in the goals prior to the tie, Die Adler defenders would have to put in an extra shift to stop the Nigerian talisman from scoring.
They managed to do that until the 40th minute, but they could only try in the end.
Napoli went on a quick counter, with Lozano running over 50 yards and Napoli providing an outlet in the box.
Lozano then sent a sweet low cross toward Osimhen who was being marked by two players. Nonetheless, the former Lille man wriggled his way past and put a clean fin.ish into the net to make it 1-0 for Napoli.
The Partenopei’s workload was reduced when Randal Kolo Muani got red-carded for a poor tackle. Napoli took advantage, with Di Lorenzo scoring in the 68th minute to make it 2-0.
Osimhen was hauled off for Giovanni Simeone in the 84th minute. Napoli held on to see out the 2-0 win.
The second leg takes place in three weeks at the Stadio Diego Amando Maradona.
In the other game of the night, Real Madrid trounced Liverpool 5-2 at Anfield
