Southampton look set for Championship football, but the owners are trying to salvage the situation
Super Eagles stars Paul Onuachu and Joe Aribo are set to get a new manager at Southampton, as the club have announced the sacking of Nathan Jones as coach.
Aribo arrived in Southampton last summer, but it has been a topsy-turvy time for him. Under former boss Ralph Hassenhutttl, the team struggled, and the club had to let him go in November 2022.
Jones took over on November 10th, but he has been unable to turn the tide at the club. The Welsh man lost nine of the 14 games he took charge of at the club.
The Saints lost disappointingly to Wolves on Saturday. They had a one-man advantage and they lead, but they lost it in the second half, conceding two goals fortuitously.
Following the run of poor results, Southampton have now decided to let Jones go as they look to salvage their season.
“Southampton Football Club can confirm it has parted company with Men’s First Team Manager Nathan Jones,” the club disclosed via their website.
“First Team Coaches Chris Cohen and Alan Sheehan have also left the club.
:First Team Lead Coach Rubén Sellés will take charge of training and prepare the team ahead of next weekend’s game against Chelsea.”
Onuachu made his debut against Leeds, but it was one to forget for him, as he did not offer much in attack. Aribo and Onuachu would hope that the club can find a new coach that can save their season and prevent them from dropping to the Championship.
