The unthinkable! Super Eagles forward confident Al Hilal can beat Real Madrid and others to win Club World Cup

Al Hilal were the champions in the 2021-2022 Saudi Pro League campaign. However, they currently sit third with four points behind the league leader, Al Nassr.

The Super Eagles forward, who previously disclosed the Saudi Pro League’s toughness, has likened Morocco’s surprise performance to what the Asian club can do at the Club World Cup.

The Saudi champions, who are also Asia’s most successful club, have been picked to compete with Flamengo (Copa Libertadores winners), Seattle Sounders (Concacaf), Auckland City (Oceania), Wydad Casablanca (Africa), and Al-Ahly (Africa).

The tournament, which is set to take place in Morocco, will see the La Liga champions compete to be crowned for the eighth time.

Recall that the Nigerian striker, who had a good period with Al-Shabaab, switched to Al Hilal in the same division only a few days before making his debut in the FIFA Club World Cup in the UAE.

However, the 2021-22 Saudi Pro Champions were shown the exit door by the African side, Al Ahly, in the third-place match after being knocked out in the Semis by Chelsea courtesy of a goal from Romelu Lukaku.

Ighalo, who is “happy” that his club has been selected to represent Asia in the Club World Cup this year, told FIFA+ that his team has the potential to perform the impossible and win the event.

“Everything is possible in football. Nowadays, you can’t predict what’s going to happen. If you work hard and fight hard on the field of play you can do anything.” he said.

The former Manchester United player, on the other hand, believes his squad can repeat Morocco’s stunning achievement in 2022 and win the Club World Cup.

“Look at Morocco at the World Cup, for instance. Nobody gave them a chance. They got to the semi-final and they almost got to the final. I believe Al Hilal can fight and get to the final and win it, because in football it’s possible to do anything when you work hard and believe in yourself.” Ighalo says.

The event, which is to take place in the Maghreb region of North Africa, will run from February 1 to 11, 2022.
