Super Eagles star gets new coach in Italy

Cremonese is at the other end of the Serie A table, with just seven points; nonetheless, if caution is not exercised, they may find themselves relegated to the second tier.

Super Eagles player Cyril Dessers will work under new management following a disappointing run by the newly promoted team, US Cremonese.

The Italian side has not had the best of their run since being promoted to the Italian top division, sitting at the other end of the standings with just 7 points from seven draws.

The Tigers, playing 18 domestic league games, have refused to win a match so far, which has waxed out the patience of the President, Paolo Rossi.

Following the loss to Monza, it was much more obvious that the time was up for Massimiliano Alvini, who was fired and replaced by Davide Ballardini.

The 59-year-old took over from Alvini, who was sacked on Saturday after a 3-2 home defeat to Monza.

Desser will, however, decide on a new life under Ballardini for the next year after the coach signed a deal with Cremonese until June 2024, the club announced.

Ballardini, who has been without a club since splitting with Genoa in November 2021, has the Violin’s fate on his shoulder in deciding if they’d remain in their Italian top flight.

Ballardini’s debut game as manager will be against Serie A leaders Napoli in the Italian Cup on Tuesday.
