Samuel Chukwueze begins 2023 on an excellent note as Villarreal crush Cartagena

The Nigeria international is in love with the Copa del Rey as he was once again among the goal scorers in the Yellow Submarines’ triumph

Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze delivered an excellent display to help Villarreal thrash FC Cartagena 5-1 and advance to the next round of the Copa del Rey.

Chukwueze continued his brilliant run in the cup competition, netting Villarreal’s fourth goal as the Spanish La Liga club ran riot at the Estadio Municipal Cartagonova.

FC Cartagena started the encounter the better side, heading into the halftime break with the lead courtesy of Pablo Vasquez’s strike.

But Villarreal were a different beast after the interval with Alex Baena, Arnaut Danjuma, Morales, Chukwueze, and Etienne Capoue getting on the score sheet.

The Nigerian attacker had registered two goals and two assists in his previous two appearances in the Copa del Rey before kick-off.

He showed he had rediscovered his goalscoring form in Villarreal’a last game of 2022, finding the net in the 2-1 win over Valencia at the weekend.

Turkish Super League

Elsewhere in Turkey, Super Eagles defender Bright Osayi-Samuel put in a good shift at right-back for Fenerbahce to help them to a 2-1 victory away to Antalyaspor.

Nigerian international Osayi-Samuel was on from start to finish, as a Michy Batshuayi brace helped Fenerbahce continue their title charge.
