Nottingham Forest boss issues Awoniyi update ahead of Leicester City clash

The Super Eagles striker has been unavailable for the Tricky Trees’ in their last two games, and he could yet miss out on their next fixture

Nottingham Forest coach Steve Cooper has revealed that Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi is a big doubt for their clash against Leicester City on Saturday.

Awoniyi claimed back-to-back Man of the match awards for Nottingham Forest earlier this month after helping the Tricky Trees to outstanding results.

The Super Eagles star was instrumental in Forest’s 1-1 draw against Chelsea. He then helped them claim a 1-0 win against Southampton three days later. Unfortunately, he had to be taken off in the 77th minute because he could not finish the game.

Awoniyi has missed Nottingham Forest’s last two games, and ahead of their Premier League fixture on Saturday, Nottingham Forest boss Cooper has revealed that Awoniyi would still be unavailable.

“Taiwo didn’t make it for this one(against Leicester City),” Cooper said as per Nottingham Post.

“We’re working away with him for the weekend. We’ve got our fingers crossed on that one.

“I’m not going to ever cry about things that are going against us, but our injury list is really unfortunate at the moment.

“Leicester is coming up – a good game, a big game. They have a day of extra rest and preparation, which seems to be the norm for us, but there we go. We’ll get on with it.”

Nottingham Forest have been on a good run in January, and they would look to claim a good result against a Leicester City side that has been erratic.
