“I’ll ask him to take it easy next time” – Super Eagles star reacts to red card shown his manager

A heated clash of the titans meeting ended in favour of the Smurfs but it was not before their manager had been sent to the stands

Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu has provided a light-hearted reaction to the red card shown to manager Wouter Vrancken during KRC Genk’s thrilling 3-1 win at home to Club Brugge.

The matchday 19 meeting between the league leaders and the reigning champions lived up to its billings with twists, drama, red cards, and goals not in short supply.

Onuachu scored the goal that put the Smurfs 2-1 up after Hans Vanaken had given Brugge an early lead that was cancelled by a fine Cuesta equaliser.

Referee Lawrence Visser showed two red cards in the encounter – one to Club Brugge’s Ivorian defender Loubadhe Sylla and the other to Genk manager Wouter Vrancken for unruly behaviour.

Onuachu admits that Vrancken deserved to be sent to the stands but pledged to have a chat with the 43-year-old so that he could mask his emotions better next time.

“There were indeed a lot of emotions involved,” Onuachu said, as per VoetbalPrimeur.

“Our trainer got very angry and was sent into the stands. That energy is in the entire coaching staff, they transfer it to us, and we feel it.

“But I’m going to ask him to take it a bit easier next time.”

Last season’s Golden Boot winner, Onuachu has found the back of the net 14 times in 16 appearances in the Jupiler Pro League this season.

Onuachu’s brilliance has heightened interest in his services in recent weeks, and the former FC Midtjylland forward is believed to have a new fan in Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag.
