Iwobi was looking to help the Toffees end their poor run, but Wolves had other ideas
Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi had an average display for Everton as they fell to a painful 2-1 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers to extend their winless run to five games.
Everton had failed to win their last four competitive games before the World Cup break. However, they were looking to end that poor run when they welcomed bottom-placed Wolves to Goodison Park.
Everton started well, and they were rewarded early, with Yerry Mina scoring in the 7th minute to give the Toffees the lead.
However, Wolves pulled one back in the 22nd minute through Daniel Podence.
Both teams huffed and puffed, but they failed to offer much bite in attack. Iwobi had an average game with 63 touches, two shots, and three successful dribbles.
However, his efforts amounted to naught, as Wolves went on a quick counterattack in the dying embers of the game, and Ait Nouri was at the end of the move, finishing with aplomb to make it 2-1 for Wolves.
The loss leaves Everton in 17th, a point above the relegation zone. They face Manchester City next Saturday in their final game of 2022. The Toffees will look to give a spirited performance against the Premier League champions.
