St. Louis city signs Nigeria-eligible Samuel Adeniran from Seattle Sounders

The Seattle Sounders gave Samuel Adeniran a first-team deal last winter, although he only played four times for them in Major League Soccer.

The American, Samuel Adeniran, born to Nigerian parents, has penned a new deal with the St. Louis CITY SC.

The Texas-born player, who was brilliant in the UCL championship, was acquired by the American club in an effort to strengthen their attack.

The 24-year-old, who only made four appearances for Seattle, played domestically in the USL Championship while on loan to San Antonio FC in 2022, helping them in winning the league.

Adeniran played 20 times for San Antonio in the USL and scored 10 goals and an assist.

The sports director for St. Louis, Lutz Pfannenstiel, said in a press release to announce the player’s acquisition that

“We looked at Samuel for a long time and thought that he could be an asset for our team ahead of the 2023 season,”

“His 6-foot-4 frame boasts a strong striker frame that commands attention and has proven his scoring skills the last two years.”

Adeniran’s new employer will reportedly pay the Sounders $100k in General Allocation Money (GAM) in 2023 to secure the forward, with an extra $100k GAM payable in 2024 should Adeniran fulfil specific performance requirements.
