La Liga giants Atletico Madrid join race for in-demand Super Eagles star

The Nigeria international could be on the move when the winter transfer window opens for business

Spanish La Liga campaigners Atletico Madrid have joined Napoli in the race for Super Eagles and Fenerbahce star Bright Osayi-Samuel, says Fotomac.

Bright Osayi-Samuel has been attracting the attention of several suitors heading into the winter transfer season following his brilliant spell in Istanbul.

Since Osayi-Samuel arrived at Fenerbahce from Queens Park Rangers last year for only half a million euros, the full-back has made 83 appearances, scoring three goals and supplying six assists.

The 24-year-old defender’s consistency is emphasised in his record at QPR which reads 115 matches played, 13 goals scored and 13 assists provided in four years.

Osayi-Samuel’s hardwork and quality are beginning to gain recognition after he starred in this season’s Europa League and made his Super Eagles debut in November against Portugal.

Fenerbahce have Osayi-Samuel tied to a long-term contract until the summer of 2025 but the Canary may struggle to keep the Okija-bron star in Istanbul beyond the winter.

Napoli are reportedly the frontrunner for Osayi-Samuel’s signature. But the Italian Serie A leaders have been joined in that race by former La Liga champions Atletico Madrid.

Deployed essentially as a right-back in Turkey, Osayi-Samuel is also adept at playing as a right winger and his versatility may have caught the attention of Atletico boss Diego Simeone.

Bright Osayi-Samuel has a market value of €9 million (Transfermarkt).
