Nigeria International claims that the Saudi Arabian League is one of the toughest leagues in Asia.
According to Super Eagles forward Odion Ighalo, moving to the Saudi Pro League was supposed to make things simpler since he would score many more goals, but the reality was otherwise.
After a season at Manchester United, when he scored five goals and provided only one assist in all competitions, the striker decided to move on. But compared to the number of goals he scored in his prior seasons, this may be considered the lowest.
Ighalo has participated in games for seven distinct divisions, including Tippeligaen, Serie A, La Liga, Premier League, Segunda División, Super League, and Pro League.
This leads to the possibility that the attacker has enough expertise to determine which league seems to be the hardest.
The striker, while speaking to the Athletic, said:
“Before I came, I thought the league would be a pushover, but now, having played for two seasons, I know it’s one of the toughest in the region.
“Al Hilal won the AFC Champions League in 2019 and 2021 and qualified for the Club World Cup,”
The Super Eagles player said their league is among the fastest-growing leagues since international players seem to be switching to the league.
“The league is growing faster than I expected,” says Ighalo.
“More foreign players, coaches, and the federation are backing it, and you can see that reflected in the Saudi team,” he stressed.
