Former manager of Super Eagles midfielder resigns after World Cup failure

Ex-coach of Nigerian midfielder confirms his resignation as Belgium national team head coach.

Roberto Martinez, who is the former coach of Super Eagles midfielder Victor Moses, stepped down as the manager of Belgium national team.

Recall that the 2nd in the FIFA ranking received a shocking exit after a toothless draw against the Croatian side.

Recall that the Spanish boss was forced to fend off late interest from West Ham and Fulham to sign the much-coveted youngster from Crystal Palace in 2010.

Moses who was 19 at that time signed a contract with The Latics, which earned him about six times the £3,000-a-week salary he was on at Selhurst Park.

However, the Spaniard, who oversaw the Nigerian star’s two-year career, pocketed handsome sums from the player’s £10 million transfer to Chelsea.

According to reports, the two originally had a unique connection since his former boss saw him as a special talent that he couldn’t replace for his squad.

However, neither party has tweeted anything about the recent event on any of their social media platforms—not a message, text, or open tweet.

Meanwhile, after six years of leading the squad, the former Everton manager has ended his tenure as Belgian manager.

Martinez, speaking after their tie against Croatia, said: “That was my last game with the national team and it was emotional as you can imagine.

“I always work towards long-term projects and they need to be set in advance. That was always the plan”.

The Belgian FA, however revealed shortly after the match that Martinez had earlier made the decision to quite the national team before the World Cup tournament.
