The Indomitable Lions seemingly appeared on their way out of the competition until a late fightback in the second
Vincent Aboubakar was the hero for Cameroon as the Lions fought back from a two-goal deficit to draw 3-3 with Serbia.
Cameroon struck first after the half-hour when Jean-Charles Castelletto turned home the opener from a corner kick.
But Serbia scored two goals deep into first-half stoppage time to turn the game around and added a third through Fulham’s Mitrovic within the opening ten minutes of the second half.
Cameroon looked dead and out, with a defeat likely to send them out of the World Cup. The Indomitable Lions lost their first match 2-0 against Switzerland.
But Cameroon coach Rigobert Song sent in exciting forward Vincent Aboubakar, and the game changed almost instantly.
Aboubakar reduced the deficit with an audacious chip in the 63rd minute.
And the Cameroon number ten then set up Eric Choupo-Mouting for the Lions’ equaliser.
Nigerian fans were impressed by Cameroon’s comeback, and they took to the social media platform Twitter to express their delight.
“Come on Cameroon!!!! What a come back!”
Cameroon will play against Brazil in their last group match and will need a win to stand a chance of making it to the Round of 16.
