The Canucks made only their second appearance at the Mundial on Wednesday, falling to a narrow defeat to Belgium

Dee Adekugbe burst out in excitement and dancing after watching her son Samuel Adekugbe feature for Canada in their opening day 1-0 loss to Belgium at the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Adekugbe came on for the final 16 minutes to make his World Cup debut as Canada pushed Belgium close in their first World Cup game since 1986.

The Hatayspor defender could not help the Reds salvage a draw, with Michy Batshuayi’s first-half effort handing Belgium their first victory in Qatar.

But Canada’s defeat in their first FIFA World Cup match in 36 years could not deprive Dee Adekugbe of the joy of watching her son play at football’s biggest festival.

Momma Adekugbe watched the match from a TV set at home and was genuinely proud of her son when he was introduced into the tie in the 74th minute for Richie Laryea.

In a short video posted on Instagram, Dee Adekugbe could be seen dancing and screaming, “My son Sam Adekugbe is in the World Cup….oh my God. Hallelujah.”

Sam Adekugbe will hope to make his full World Cup debut when Canada trade tackles with Morocco and Croatia, their two other group opponents.
