Victor Osimhen becomes Nigeria’s greatest goalscorer in Serie A history

The Nigeria international joined Napoli from LOSC Lille just over two years ago for an African record transfer fee

Victor Osimhen has scored 32 goals in the Italian Serie A for Napoli to become Nigeria’s most prolific goalscorer in the championship.

The Super Eagles striker hit the record-setting landmark in the first half of Napoli’s clash with Atalanta Bergamasco.

Ademola Lookman gave the hosts the lead through a penalty kick before Osimhen soared above everyone else to head home the equaliser for the league leaders.

Before the match against Atalanta, Osimhen was locked on the same 31 goals as former Nigeria international Simeon ‘Simy’ Nwankwo.

But with his goal on Saturday evening, the Napoli man has gone clear of the former Crotone hero.

Osimhen has shown more prowess in front of goal in the Italian top flight than former Inter Milan striker Obafemi Martins who bagged 28 goals.

Osimhen also outshines former Atalanta man Stephen Makinwa (16 goals) and ex-Chievo Verona forward Victor Nsofor (14).
