The Belgian top flight is home to a couple of Nigeria’s most refined talents
According to the latest Transfermarkt update, two Nigeria internationals, Paul Onuachu and Raphael Onyedika, have emerged among the most valuable players in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League.
KRC Genk forward Paul Onuachu is no stranger to Belgian football, and at 15 million euros, he is the second most valuable player in the country’s elite division.
The 2021 Ebony Golden Shoe winner is second only to Club Brugge midfielder Andreas Skov Olsen, who is rated at €20 million.
Onuachu is, however, the most valued player at Genk and the ninth most valuable Nigerian in football.
The former FC Midtjylland ace is currently the league’s top goalscorer with 12 goals despite missing the first month of the campaign, which was spent recovering from an injury that hampered his preseason preparations.
On Friday, the Nigerian striker made new imprints in the record books after netting four goals in Genk’s 4-1 hammering of Sporting Charleroi.
It was Onuachu’s first career double-brace, and it sets the 28-year-old on course to reclaiming the top goalscorer award.
Club Brugge’s Nigerian import Raphael Onyedika has also seen an increase in market value, with the 21-year-old now worth €13 million.
The young defensive midfielder is the sixth most valuable player in the Belgian first division.
That value is a career-high for Onyedika, who only joined Club Brugge from FC Midtjylland in August for €10 million.
In January, Onyedika’s value was pegged at only €3 million. But the youngster has been exceptional since joining Brugge, helping the Belgian champions make it to the knockout round of the UEFA Champions League for the first time in history.
Both Onuachu and Onyedika are products of Nigeria’s academy side FC Ebedei.
