The Ghanaians were unlucky in their opening-day loss to Portugal, but they put up a dogged fight to stage a comeback against South Korea
Ghana had to dig deep to seal a 3-2 victory over South Korea in their second 2022 FIFA World Cup fixture at the Education Stadium.
The Black Stars were involved in a gung-ho affair in their opening-day game against Portugal, but they were just unlucky, as they lost 3-2.
However, against South Korea, Ghana were looking to get a result to keep their hopes of remaining at the World Cup alive.
Ghana stormed to a two-goal lead in the first half, courtesy of goals from Mohammed Salisu and Mohammed Kudus.
However, the game turned on its head in the second period, as Cho Gue-Sung scored a brace in three minutes to make it 2-2.
Nonetheless, Ghana regained their lead through Kudus, who got his second goal in the 68th minute. From then, it was fire and brimstone.
The South Koreans poured attack upon attack to get an equalizer. But the Black Stars defended with their lives and saw out the 3-2 result.
The win puts Ghana in good stead to qualify for the next round, as they would only need a draw from their last game against Uruguay- depending on the results of Portugal’s game against Uruguay.
Following the result, Nigerian fans took to social media to celebrate Ghana’s win. Others feel that if Nigeria was in Ghana’s position, they would have been dumped out of the World Cup already.
