Game recognises game: Super Eagles coach hails Roma boss Jose Mourinho

The duo were colleagues earlier in their coaching careers and Peseiro is full of praise for his old friend

Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro has praised Roma coach Jose Mourinho for his illustrious coaching career.

Peseiro and Mourinho trained to be coaches together in the earlier stages of their careers. However, whilst the latter has garnered a lot of silverware in his 33-year managerial career, the former has been a perennial underachiever.

Some of Mourinho’s achievements are the Champions League, Premier League, English Premier League, Laliga, Serie A, and Europa League.

Super Eagles boss Peseiro is proud of his compatriot’s achievements and believes the Roma boss is the reason why Portuguese managers are revered in Europe.

“I was with Mourinho and I studied him … Or he studied me! We are friends, very good friends. And he has shown that he puts on great performances,” Peseiro said as per Tuttomercatoweb.

“Over the years he has shown his enthusiasm and motivation. He opened many doors everywhere for us Portuguese coaches.

“He showed everyone that in Portugal there are great coaches and we all have to thank Mourinho. First, he won without money, at Porto, then he became a fighter.

“In England, he has managed to take the Premier League a step forward, he always created something, enthusiasm, attention, results, victories.”

According to former Nigeria Football Federation President Amaju Pinnick, it was Mourinho that recommended Peseiro for the Super Eagles job.

So far, Peseiro has overseen six of the Super Eagles’ games, and he has recorded just two wins. The Portuguese tactician would look to emulate Mourinho and leave a mark with Nigeria as prior to the Super Eagles job,  he had had a nomadic and largely unsuccessful career.
