Ex-Man United star name-checks Alex Iwobi when talking about Frank Lampard getting Everton sack

The former Chelsea manager could be the next manager to lose his job following a lacklustre time at Goodison Park

Ex-Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has identified Alex Iwobi as the most creative player at Everton.

But Ferdinand believes the Toffees are struggling to get the needed points because they are not creating and scoring enough goals.

The retired England international admits Iwobi is doing his bits but fears it may not be enough to save Frank Lampard from getting sacked in the coming days.

“I think Frank’s biggest hindrance that he’s got at the moment is a lack of creativity and goals,” Ferdinand said on his Rio Ferdinand presents FIVE podcast.

“McNeil’s not scoring, Gordon’s gone off the boil a bit, Iwobi’s their most creative player and he’s playing in midfield, Dominic Calvert-Lewin is carrying too many injuries.

“They got Maupay who never really scored goals for Brighton in a team that created a lot of chances; he’s now gone to a team that doesn’t create a lot of chances.

“So it’s difficult; time will tell with Frank, I hope he doesn’t get sacked.”

Three months into the 2022-2023 English Premier League campaign, five managers have already been sacked.

Joe Aribo’s boss at Southampton Ralph Hasenhüttl is the latest manager to be shown the exit door this season, following in the footsteps of Bruno Lage, Scott Parker, Steven Gerrard, and Thomas Tuchel.

To avoid getting the boot, Frank Lampard will have to improve his mediocre 33.33% win record, having won 12, drawn seven, and lost 17 games in charge of the Merseysiders.

Everton presently languish in the lower half of the Premier League table, a mere two points from the relegation zone. The Toffees have won three matches and lost six of their 14 league matches.
