The Nigerian maestro had a decent game, but Manchester United proved to have the stronger chin on the night
Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has expressed his disappointment with Everton’s loss to Manchester United at Goodison Park on Sunday.
The Toffees were looking to continue their seven-game unbeaten run when they welcomed Manchester United to Merseyside on Sunday.
Both sides brought their best to the table, but Everton were unable to pull the chestnut from the fire.
Despite Iwobi’s superb strike from outside that gave Frank Lampard’s lads the lead, the Red Devils stormed back to win 2-1.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 700th club goal to level the scoreline, while Antony finished calmly just before halftime to give Manchester United a 2-1 lead.
Everton went all out in the dying minutes of the game, but David De Gea was in his element and ensured that his side saw out the 2-1 result.
Iwobi got his first goal of the season against Manchester United, but he was disappointed with the outcome of the game. Nonetheless, the 26-year-old is willing to move on from the defeat and return to winning ways.
“The manner we conceded the two goals was something we were talking about before the game,” Iwobi told Everton TV.
“We knew the threat they had on the counter-attack, so we tried to nullify that, but we failed.
“We made a few mistakes, but it’s not something we want to dwell on, we have to go again.
Everton’s next game is a very tough fixture at Tottenham Hotspur, who have lost just one game in the Premier League this season.
The last time both teams met, Spurs demolished Everton 5-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. But with the new resilience that the team has shown and Iwobi in the form of his life, Lampard’s men would be hoping they can snatch a draw there.
