Transfer: Monaco want Nigeria’s third-best assist provider in Premier League history – report

The French top-flight campaigners have been impressed, like so many others, with the consistently excellent output of the Super Eagles’ playmaker

French Lig 1 side Monaco have turned their attention towards Everton and Nigerian midfielder Alex Iwobi.

Quoting Turkish transfer expert Ekrem Konur, Tribal Football claims Monaco have started scouting Iwobi ahead of the winter transfer window.

Formerly of Arsenal, Iwobi joined Everton immediately after the Africa Cup of Nations tournament in 2019.

The 26-year-old has a contract with the Toffees until the summer of 2024, but there are reports that the Merseysiders are working on an extension for the player.

That development follows Iwobi’s spectacular start to the 2022-2023 Premier League season.

The Super Eagles playmaker has been Everton’s most creative player, providing one goal and six assists in 14 competitive games.

Iwobi now has 25 assists in the Premier League, making him Nigeria’s third most prolific goal provider in the competition’s history.

Legendary Arsenal forward Nwankwo Kanu (29 assists) and former Everton man Yakubu Aiyegbeni (26 assists) are the only Nigerians with more assists than Iwobi in the English top-flight.

A move to France at a time when Iwobi is showing career-best form may, however, not be appealing to the Nigeria international.
