The Nigerian forward has hit top form in recent weeks and could be unstoppable on Sunday
Royal Antwerp coach Marco van Bommel and veteran defender Toby Alderweireld are convinced they have what it takes to stop Genk’s Paul Onuachu from wreaking havoc this weekend.
It is a battle of the top two teams in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League when leaders Genk visit second-place Antwerp at the Bosuilstadion.
Genk have been near-perfect recently, winning their last six games and failing to score in just one of their league matches this term.
After a slow start to the campaign, Super Eagles striker Onuachu has hit top gear in style. The Nigerian forward has six goals in his last four games, and he would be the man Antwerp needs to watch the most on Sunday afternoon.
Antwerp coach Marco van Bommel admits the Nigeria ace is deadly in front of goal. But the former Wolfsburg manager believes he has the plan to stop Onuachu from scoring.
Van Bommel was quoted as saying: “Whether we have a specific plan to stop the danger Onuachu? We are not especially concerned with one player. It comes down to cutting off the supply to Onuachu.”
Belgian defender Toby Alderweireld will be facing Onuachu for the first time.
And when asked how he plans to handle the Nigerian forward, the former Tottenham Hotspur man said, “He has a very nice muscle mass; I’m curious about him.”
Onuachu has shown he loves playing against Antwerp.
Across two league matches against Antwerp last term, Onuachu scored in the 1-1 draw at the Cegeka Arena and twice in the 4-2 loss at the Bosuilstadion.
