There were several outstanding performances from Nigerian footballers in Europe on Sunday.
In the Spanish Primera Division Femenina, Super Falcons star Toni Payne was the secret behind Sevilla’s 5-1 thrashing of Villarreal at the Ciudad Deportiva del Villarreal.
The Nigeria international provided three assists, all of which set up Ana Franco to score the visitors’ first, second, and fourth goals of the encounter.
Cristina Martin-Prieto and Martinez scored the other goals for Sevilla.
Over at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stéfano, Madrid, Super Falcons defender Osinachi Ohale and Deportivo Alaves had a day to forget as they crashed to a 7-1 defeat to Real Madrid.
Alaves held a 1-0 advantage into the break courtesy of a fine Saez opener.
But Ohale scored an own-goal shortly after the restart for Madrid’s equaliser, and it was all downhill for the visitors from that point on.
In the Belgian First Division A, Nigerian forward Victor Boniface continued his impressive start to life in Belgian during Union Saint-Gilloise’s convincing 6-1 win away to KV Oostende.
Boniface started on the bench after an exhilarating performance, including grabbing a brace, in the 3-3 draw with Braga in the Europa Conference League.
But the former Bodoe-Glimt ace was introduced at the beginning of the second half with Union SG leading two-nil.
And the youngster supplied an assist and scored his third league goal for USG in stoppage time to inspire his side to fourth on the table, six points behind Paul Onuachu’s KRC Genk.
In the Czech Liga, Peter Olayinka’s quality proved decisive in powering Slavia Prague to a narrow 2-1 home win over Mlada Boleslav.
The Super Eagles winger assisted Lingr to net Slavia’s winning goal after Skalak’s penalty had cancelled out Jurecka’s opener for the hosts.
The victory lifts Slavia to second on the league table, four points behind champions and leaders Viktoria Plzen, who have played one fewer game.
