The sons of the gods have been struggling in recent weeks, but it seems they have put the disappointments behind them
Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey supplied the assist for Ajax’s second goal in their 7-1 mauling of Excelsior.
It was a show of dominance from the sons of the gods at the Johan Cruijff Arena in Amsterdam.
Despite coming off a 4-2 loss against Napoli last week, Ajax were huge favorites to claim a victory against Eredivisie strugglers Excelsior, and they wasted no time in showing their quality.
Jorge Sanchez opened the scoring in the 15th minute. Then Calvin Bassey supplied Steven Berghuis the assist for the second game 12 minutes later. Brian Brobbey scored Ajax’s third just before the break to put the Amsterdam kings in form control of the tie.
Second-half goals from Brobbey, Dusan Tadic Steven Bergwijn, and Mohammed Kudus completed Ajax’s tally. However, Nikolas Agrafotis scored the consolation goal for Excelsior in the 90th minute.
Ajax were absolutely fantastic and dominant on the night, as they had a whopping 73 percent possession, they also recorded 20 shots on target.
Bassey had a great game in defense, registering 85 touches, an 88 percent pass accuracy, three clearances, and two interceptions alongside his assist for Ajax’s second.
