The former Nigeria international put an end to a two-year barren run on Friday to lead his team to the first league win of the season
Nigerian forward Anthony Ujah has expressed his delight at grabbing his first-ever goal for Eintracht Braunschweig in their 4-2 victory over Nürnberg in the 2.Bundesliga on Friday evening.
Before the arrival of Nürnberg at the Eintracht-Stadion, Eintracht Braunschweig had lost five of their opening six league games and were favourites to drop points against the visitors.
Anthony Ujah had also not found the back of the net in two years, last scoring for former club Union Berlin in 2020.
But all that changed in 90 minutes in front of 17,173 spectators.
Ujah ended his goal drought as he made it 2-2 for the Lions just before halftime, and the 31-year-old claimed the assist to the home side’s fourth goal of the evening.
Shortly after the encounter, Ujah revealed how relieved he was to get back on the goalscoring trail. The former Cologne ace, however, emphasised the hard work the team put in to earn the first win of the season.
“I’m very, very happy. Of course it’s up to us strikers to score goals, but today we fought really well,” Ujah told Eintracht.
“We kept coming back and scoring the goals. I’m personally very happy with my goal; that gives me a lot of confidence.
“I hope it’s just one of many goals. We talked and worked a lot as a team during the week. We knew we had to score now. We’re trying to keep the mentality high.”
Ugbokolo-born Ujah won the 2.Bundesliga with FC Cologne during the 2013/2014 campaign.
