Royal Antwerp left stunned as NFF cancels midfield sensation’s invitation

The Belgian club had received correspondence from the NFF that Alhassan Yusuf has been invited for the friendly against Algeria until a late cancellation 

Royal Antwerp were left stunned at the decision of the Nigeria Football Federation to cancel the invitation extended to flying midfielder, Yusuf.

Yusuf, often dubbed the ‘next Kante’ due to his energetic style was voted the club’s best player last month and has been impressive this season in the midfield for the team.

The club held back the announcement of cancellation of the invitation from Yusuf until after the club’s 2-1 win against RC Seraing during the weekend.

Antwerp has won their first nine games of the season and Yusuf has been important in all. His invitation had made the rounds in the local press as he has been one of Nigeria’s best players in Europe this season.

The club said they held back the information in order to allow him focus on the game.

Yusuf is however not affected by the development according to sources close to him per ScoreNigeria, and believes he will get his Super Eagles chance when God wishes.

He had also missed the Super Eagles American tour where they played against Ecuador and Mexico due to visa and passport hitches.

Yusuf was snubbed in Nigeria’s squad list for the game against Algeria on the 27th of September in Oran.
