“I’m satisfied” – Super Eagles hopeful scores himself excellent after brilliant first months in Belgium

The Nigerian forward has been an instant hit in Belgium after swapping the Swedish top flight for the Pro League

Royale Union Saint-Gilloise striker Victor Boniface has expressed his delight at his impressive start to life in Belgium.

It has been just seven weeks since Boniface quit Sweden’s Bodoe/Glimt for Union SG but last week was probably the best of them all.

Boniface scored the winning goal as the Belgians edged Molde in the Europa Conference League on Thursday.

And the 21-year-old was again Union SG’s hero on Sunday, popping up in stoppage time to head home the winner in the 2-1 defeat of Eupen.

The Nigerian is quick to credit the team for the win at Eupen, but he is aware that his goal is a bit out of the extraordinary.

“It’s not about individual performance; it’s about the team,” Victor Boniface said, as per HLN.

“I am very happy that I could score the goal that gave us the three points.

“What happened for the goal? I have to watch the goal again. I don’t remember how I jumped, but I think I jumped really well and scored the goal.

“That may be a draw would have been fairer as we didn’t have it easy? Sometimes football is just about winning. Sometimes also about how you play, but in a competition like ours, the three points are the most important.”

Union SG paid only €2 million to sign Boniface from Bodoe Glimt on August 2.

The Real Sapphire academy product has contributed three goals, two assists, and a string of brilliant performances to become the rave of the moment in Belgium.

Boniface admits that he is pleased with how everything is going well with his new club.

“I am very happy here in Union and have a very good team around me. I also get to know them better. Everything – the environment and the competition – is new to me.

“It has been going well since my arrival, and I always try to help the team. I am satisfied with my performance.”

Despite his brilliance, Boniface did not impress the Super Eagles handlers enough to be included in the Nigerian squad preparing for a friendly match against Algeria.
