Bologna were reportedly the favourite to land the Nigeria international, but the Italian side could face stiff competition from other notable suitors
Turkish giants Fenerbahce and Serie A newcomers Cremonese have joined the race to sign Watford and Super Eagles defender William Troost-Ekong.
According to Fotomac, Fenerbahce have already had an official bid rejected by Watford for Troost-Ekong.
The Canary could still return with an improved offer for the Super Eagles vice-captain as the Yellow-and-dark-blue side are in serious need of defensive reinforcement.
Title hopefuls Fenerbahce have garnered only seven points from four league games this term.
The Turkish giants are, however, not the only team interested in Troost-Ekong.
Newly-promoted Serie A campaigners Cremonese also have their eyes trained on William Troost-Ekong.
The Grey and Reds have struggled to cope with the demands of the Italian top flight. Cremonese have conceded in each of their league matches and boast a solitary point from four matches.
And as per Il Giorno, Cremonese have contacted Watford to snap up Troost-Ekong on transfer deadline day.
Aside from Fenerbahce and Cremonese, Troost-Ekong is also reportedly attracting interest from Bologna.
Troost-Ekong is no stranger to the Turkish Super Lig and the Italian Serie A.
The 28-year-old centre-back spent a year at Bursaspor, having joined from KAA Gent for €1.05m in 2017.
He also featured 66 times for Udinese between 2018 and 2020 before moving to England to team up with Watford.
