After injuries to Victor Osimhen and Taiwo Akinkunmi already confirmed, Jose Peseiro have more sweats to shed as one of his dependables was prematurely substituted on Saturday
Calvin Bassey kept his fifth straight clean sheet with Ajax in what was a very dominant performance against Heenrenveen.
He completed 98% of his passes in the game, had 98 touches on the ball, won all the tackles he attempted and made great recoveries in the 5-0 humiliation of their opponents.
The only blemish on a perfect day was his 84th-minute substitution which ensured Ajax finished the game with 10 men having expended all their slots on the bench.
Ajax coach, Alfred Schreuder has however downplayed the situation and said it was just a kick but there are no formal medical reports out yet.
The club’s fans are also awaiting official reports of the defender’s fitness as he has proven a good buy so far since replacing Lisandro Martinez earlier in the season.
With the Super Eagles, he’s one of the few players who have featured in all four games under Jose Peseiro. He played against Mexico and Ecuador in the international friendlies and against Sierra Leone and Sao Tome and Principe at the qualifiers.
