The youngster wrote his name in the Premier League’s history books, and that very well be the beginning of his legend
Arsenal Legend David Seaman has tipped Nigeria-eligible midfielder Ethan Nwaneri to be as successful as Manchester United Legend Ryan Giggs if he is handled well.
Aged 15 years 181 days, Nwaneri became the youngest player in English Premier League history when he came on as a late substitute in Arsenal’s 3-0 bashing of Brentford.
In fact, as he walked onto the pitch, to break the record, the Arsenal fans sang, “He’s got school in the morning, school in the morning!”
Nwaneri’s record-breaking moment for Arsenal was not a surprise. The youngster has been on an upward trajectory in recent months.
He has risen steadily, from playing for the Under-18s to the Under-21s and the senior team. The England-born attacking midfielder has a lot of pace and is very smart on the ball.
Nonetheless, there is always room for improvement especially when his age is taken into account.
Arsenal’s longest-serving goalkeeper Seaman believes Nwaneri is a gem and he just needs to be polished so he can glow brightly.
“He(Nwaneri) is at that age. He looks like a really experienced pro. Then you find out how old he is…..15. He’s that good, but still has to be handled right,” Seaman said as per Goal.com.
“Very similar to Ryan Giggs, he was handled perfectly by Fergie(Alex Ferguson), and look how good he turned out to be.”
Nwaneri still has time to grow under coach Mikel Arteta at Arsenal. He would look to build on his record-breaking Premier League debut to ensure that the ovation he got at the Brentford Community Stadium would not be his last.
The youngster is born to Nigerian parents. As such, he can play for the Super Eagles. However, he currently plays for the English youth teams.
