South African club signs Nigerian striker

The 21-year-old was playing in the second tier of South African football last season, but his performances have helped him seal a transfer to the Premier Division

South African Premier Division side Chippa United have confirmed the signing of Nigerian striker Etiosa Ighodaro after the expiration of his contract at University of Pretoria.

Ighodaro left Nigerian shores for South Africa last year, joining former CAF Champions League winners Mamelodi Sundowns.

He was thereafter loaned out to GladAfrica Championship side University of Pretoria.

The 21-year-old recorded four goals in 18 appearances, catching the eye of some top teams in the Premier Division.

However, Chippa United have confirmed via their Twitter handle that they have won the race for Ighdaro’s signature.

Ighodaro would have a good shot at impressing new boss Diane Klate, as Chippa United are short of legs in the attack, with a blunt 34-year-old Andile Mbenyane spearheading their attack in their 1-1 draw at Supersport United.

The Abuja-College product can play on the wings and also head the attack, so he should be a good addition to the team.
