Report: Genk agree deal with former Aston Villa striker as Dessers’ replacement

Dessers is close to sealing a transfer to the Serie A and Genk are very close to securing a good replacement

Belgium Jupiler League club Genk are close to sealing a loan deal with Fenerbahce for Tanzanian striker Mbwana Samatta.

Genk are set to lose striker Cyriel Dessers to newly-promoted Serie A side Cremonese this summer, leaving them with only one known striker Paul Onuachu.

However, even Onuachu’s status at Cegeka Arena is not cemented, as the Super Eagles striker has been linked with a move away from the club.

The Limburgers are already preparing for life without Dessers, and there have been reports emanating from Turkey that they have already agreed on a one-year loan deal with Fenerbahce for former Aston Villa man Samatta.

For Samatta, it is a return home, as he made his name playing in the Jupiler League for Genk. The Tanzanian star spent five years at Genk before moving to Aston Villa in 2020.

The Tanzanian striker would look to hit the Belgian top flight in good form and ensure that Genk do not miss Dessers.
