The Nigeria international scored what proved to be the winning goal late in his fourth debut in the Turkish top flight
It was the perfect day at the office for Nigerian attacker Henry Onyekuru as he made a dream return to the Turkish Super Liga on Sunday afternoon.
In his first competitive match for Adana Demirspor, Onyekuru netted the crucial third goal as Vincenzo Montella’s men recorded a brilliant 3-2 win at Giresunspor.
After a less-than-inspiring campaign last term at Greek giants Olympiakos, Onyekuru jumped at the chance to return to familiar surroundings in Turkey.
Signed by Adana Demirspor on a season-long loan, Onyekuru gave a hint of what to expect from him as he scored in the friendly defeat of Istanbulspor a few weeks ago.
Playing for the first Turkish side not named Galatasaray, Onyekuru made his fourth Super Lig debut for Adana Demirspor on Sunday.
Spotting jersey number seven, the Super Eagles winger made it 3-1 for his side in the 82nd minute, adding to earlier strikes from teammates Gokhan Inler and Belhanda.
Although Berişbek netted a stoppage-time goal for the hosts, it was not enough to deny Onyekuru and co all the three points on offer at the Çotanak Stadyumu in Giresun.
Sunday’s strike was Henry Onyekuru’s 21st goal in the Turkish elite division since first wearing the colours of Galatasaray during the 2018-2019 season.
It is, however, Onyekuru’s first goal for his new side, and he took to his Twitter account to celebrate it.
“1st Game 1st Goal, 1st win! All thanks to God! Onwards and Upwards for the season,” the former Monaco winger wrote.
Onyekuru will aim to continue his impressive start to life in Adana when Vincenzo Montella’s men host Sivasspor in their first home game of the campaign on Saturday.
