Nigerians in the MLS: Agada and Nwobodo shine despite disappointing results for Sporting Kansas and FC Cincinnati

Nigerian stars posted some decent performances on Saturday, and Soccernet brings to you some of the top performers.

It was a good day in the office for Nigerian players in the USA top-flight. Although they were not able to power their sid.es to victory, they registered decent displays.

Nigerian striker William Agada scored his second consecutive goal for Sporting Kansas City, but his strike was not enough for his side, as they fell to a 4-3 defeat at Austin.

Agada scored for Kansas City last week when they beat LA Galaxy 4-2 at home and he brought that same form to the fore against Austin.

Andrew Fonta opened the scoring for Kansas City, then Agada scored the second in the 23rd minute to give his side a two goals cushion.

Jon Gallagher pulled one back for Austin, but Johnny Russell scored from the spot to ensure a 3-1 scoreline going into the break.

However, the second half was a different proposition, as goals from Julio Cascante, Danny Hoesen, and Sebastian Driussi ensured that Austin ran out with a 4-3 win.

Still in the MLS, former Flying Eagles midfielder Obinna Nwobodo assisted Brandon Vazquez’s second goal for FC Cincinnati in their 2-2 draw at home to Atlanta United.

Vasquez and Brenner scored for FC Cincinnati to cancel Thiago Almada’s strike for Atlanta United. Unfortunately for Nwobodo, Andrew Gutman scored in the 83rd minute to ensure a 2-2 draw.

Meanwhile, at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, James Igbekeme saw eleven minutes of action as his Columbus Crew side were held to a 1-1 draw at Colorado Rapids.

The 27-year-old midfielder has not completed a full match since the 26th of June, and that trend continued against Rapids.

Former Watford man Cucho opened the scoring for Columbus Crew in the 5th minute, but Diego Rubio pulled one back for the home side five minutes before the second half.

Igbekeme was introduced into the game in the 80th minute, but the time was too short for him to make a meaningful impact. The game ended 1-1.
