Manchester United need a focal point in attack and Osimhen can be the man

It’s a new season, new manager and apparently, a new dawn for Manchester United but some things just never change, at least for now.

Manchester United faithful struggled through some shambolic displays on Sunday as Brighton handed defeat to them in their opening Premier League game.

With Erik Ten Hag coming on the back of a massive background of excellent managerial skills, his start to life in England would send reality shocks down his spine.

It’s the most competitive football league in Europe and times are drastic despite being early days.

Against Brighton, Manchester United played without a focal point, with Rashford further showing why he’s a shadow of his old, bubbly self. Brighton carried the ball from behind with aplomb and on the other end of the game – the United defense was a troubled water.

The introduction of wantaway Cristiano Ronaldo only did little to help in their quest for an equaliser and it revealed exactly what the team needs – attacking injections, statement of intent and a ready signing.

 

What will Osimhen bring to Manchester United?

Victor Osimhen has been linked to different clubs during the transfer window with Arsenal, Chelsea and recently Bayern Munich mentioned as interested clubs.

The Napoli forward has however stayed put for now with his valuation deemed exorbitant for many interested clubs.

The final days of the transfer window are expected to be interesting as more players try to change clubs. Osimhen on a hand has been deemed sellable at Napoli but will cost an arm and a leg.

His presence at the club may have been made more difficult by the quality of signings made by Napoli, despite losing key players in Lorenzo Insigne, Dries Mertens and Kalidou Koulibaly.

Splashing the cash on Osimhen, although panicky and forced, will be a statement of intent for Manchester United and will instantly brighten their chances.

Osimhen represents hunger and desire, the likes seen already at the other end of Manchester in Erling Haaland. While he may not be as lethal as the Norwegian, his outputs are reassuring.

Playing with a focal point in the Premier League has become essential and the big sides except Chelsea have all made statement signings in attacking areas of the pitch.

Manchester United have Ronaldo to keep, but must understand the problems that come with keeping a player not interested in staying.

They can break their nose for Osimhen, and stretch their neck out. In return, he will break his cheek bones and harry defenders and score goals, even masked.
