Lookman hits the ground running as he scores for Atalanta on Serie A debut

The Super Eagles star came on as a second half substitute and hit the ground running in his debut Serie A match

Ademola Lookman got into the groove on his Serie A debut as he scored a 95th minute goal to ease the tension on Atalanta against Sampdoria.

Lookman, who joined Atalanta recently in a €15m deal from RB Leipzig was a 63rd minute substitute for Lucas Muriel.

His goal however didn’t come until after more than half an hour as he grabbed the second goal for Atalanta with what was almost the last kick of the game.

He had gone deep to help defend a Sampdoria charge at the Atalanta goal before benefiting from a loose ball. His deft control and pass was soon returned as Atalanta countered. His goal was a cooly taken effort after sending a Sampdoria defender to the cleaners.

The Gian Piero Gasperini side have won their first game of the season as they look to improve on last season’s outing.

Elsewhere in the Serie A, Isaac Success wasn’t on the scoresheet and was on the losing side as Milan came from behind to thrash Udinese 4-2 in the opening game of the Serie A.

Rodrigo Beçao gave Udinese a deserved lead in the 2nd minute after a VAR review and the champions equalised through Theo Hernandez’s penalty in the 9th minute before Milan ran riot after Udinese’s equaliser.

Ola Aina’s Torino will be involved later on Saturday away at newly promoted Monza while David Okereke and Cyriel Desser’s Cremonese will play tomorrow when they travel to Fiorentina.

Victor Osimhen and Napoli will face Verona away on Monday.
