Ligue 1: Moffi’s heroics leads Lorient to victory against Clermont; Simon is outstanding for Nantes

The Super Eagles star proved too hot to handle for the Lancers, helping his side to a well-deserved win

Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi scored a brace for Lorient in their 2-0 victory over Clermont at the Stade du Moustoir.

Lorient looked to continue their unbeaten start to the season when they entertained Clermont at Stade du Moustoir.

Super Eagles star Moffi got the nod to lead Les Merlus’ frontline, while compatriot Innocent Bonke started from the bench.

Lorient got into their groove very early, trying to carve out the Clermont backline. They were eventually paid for their hard work, as Clermont defender Neto Borges committed a foul in the box, gifting a penalty to Les Merlus.

Moffi took no prisoners as he rammed the ball into the middle of the net, sending goalkeeper Mory Diaw the wrong way.

Clermont tried to get an equalizer, but Lorient stayed strong in defense. And in the 41st minute, Les Merlus struck again.

Moffi weaved his way past Clermont defenders and got one on one with Diaw. The Nigerian striker showed excellent composure and quality, dispatching the ball into the net.

Clermont’s woes got to a head seconds into the second period, as Borges was sent off after a second yellow card.

The Lancers snatched one back through Muhammed Cham in the 62nd minute, but it was too late, as it ended 2-1 in favor of Moffi’s Lorient.

Bonke was substituted in the 82nd minute. The victory leaves Lorient in 4th position, pending the results of other fixtures.

For Moffi, he would look to score more goals to add to his two strikes this season.

Meanwhile, it was another Moses Simon show for Nantes, as he had a goal and an assist for in Nantes 3-1 victory against Toulouse.

Nantes were looking to bounce back from the disappointment of last week when they lost to Marseille. And they had the perfect fixture to return to winning ways against newly-promoted side Toulouse.

The Yellow Canaries fell behind early in the game, as Zakaria Aboukhlal scored for Toulouse in the 15th minute.

However, Nantes came out all guns blazing in the second period, and Simon was the orchestrator of the assault.

The Super Eagles forward assisted Evann Guessand’s 50th-minute strike which restored parity for Nantes.

Mostafa Mohamed scored five minutes later to make it 2-1 for Nantes. Then Moses put a stamp on the comeback to ensure it ended 3-1 at the  Stade de la Beaujoire.
