Euro wrap: Onyekuru unstoppable, Chukwueze assists Villarreal victory, Maja crucial to Bordeaux win

Henry Onyekuru, Adana Demirspor 3-0 Sivasspor

Cast aside in Greece, Henry Onyekuru is blooming in Turkey, where he scored his third goal in three games and second in two competitive matches for Adana Demirspor.

After scoring on his league debut in the 3-2 win at Giresunspor last weekend, Onyekuru was at it again on Friday night.

The 25-year-old combined brilliantly with compatriot David Akintola to double Adana Demirspor’s lead six minutes into the second half.

Nigerian winger Akintola then distinguished himself with the home side’s third of the encounter in the 70th minute.

Adana Demirspor momentarily go top of the Turkish Super Lig with that victory.

Chukwueze, Real Valladolid 0-3 Villarreal

Samuel Chukwueze was a second-half substitute as Villarreal kicked off their 2022-23 La Liga campaign in style with a commanding 3-0 win at Real Valladolid.

Unai Emery’s men were holding on to the slimmest of advantages when Chukwueze was introduced for Coquelin in the 63rd minute.

Several minutes later, the Super Eagles winger set up Álex Baena to double the visitors’ lead.

Baena completed his brace in stoppage time as the Yellow Submarines secured the biggest win of La Liga’s opening day.

Maja, Bordeaux 1-0 Niort

Super Eagles hopeful Josh Maja helped Bordeaux maintain their unbeaten start to life in Ligue 2 with a narrow victory over Niort.

Maja, 23, laid on the assist for 20-year-old French midfielder Logan Delaurier-Chaubet to slam home the winner on the hour-mark.

With two wins and a draw in three games, Bordeaux have gathered seven points to go joint top of the Ligue 2 as they target an instant return to Ligue 1.

After a goalless first half, the home side went on a scoring spree in the second half, with the Nigeria international grabbing the last goal in the 88th minute.

Despite the win, the Muscovites remain five points behind leaders Zenit and are poised to finish as runners-up in the Supreme Division Women.
