The Randy Waldrum-tutored ladies lost their WAFCON crown in the deflating defeat to hosts Morocco on Monday night
Super Eagles winger Moses Simon has sent a touching message to the Super Falcons to cheer the team up after their disappointing loss to Morocco in the semifinals of the 2022 Women Africa Cup of Nations.
Hunting for their tenth continental crown, the Super Falcons were the favourites against a Moroccan team making it out of the group stage at the Wafcon for the first time.
But a problematic encounter saw the Nigerians reduced to ten women, battled a few controversial calls, and stood up to a partisan near-50,000 record crowd inside the Stade Prince Moulay Abdallah.
Still, the Super Falcons scored the game’s first goal and dragged the Atlas Lionesses to penalties. Unfortunately, striker Ify Onumonu failed to convert her spot-kick as Nigeria fell 5-4 to the hosts.
But the battling display of the Super Falcons has not gone unnoticed, with many voicing their admiration for the never-give-up mentality of the nine-time champions.
Nantes forward Moses Simon has also confessed his pride in watching the Nigerian ladies fight like ‘warriors’ against the odds for 120 minutes.
The Super Eagles ace charged the Falcons to cheer up as their efforts will be rewarded bountifully in the future.
“We didn’t see players on the pitch. We saw warriors who gave their all for the nation’s pride. You left us all very proud. Better days ahead cheers up, girls,” Simon wrote on Twitter.
Nigeria can still salvage some more pride when they face Zambia on Friday in Casablanca with the Wafcon’s bronze medal at stake.
