Nottingham Forest held Valencia to a 1-1 draw at Notts County’s Meadow Lane on Saturday with the Nigeria international grabbing an assist
Taiwo Awoniyi was a 62nd minute substitute in the preseason friendly game and did enough to create the equaliser for the team.
Brennan Johnson cancelled out Carlos Solver’s opener for Valencia in a game that also saw former Manchester United star, Jesse Lingard make his debut.
Lingard was central to the Reds’ attacking play for large parts of the first half but his efforts didn’t result into goals for the team.
Sam Surridge came closest to giving Forest the lead but his header hit the post following a Brennan cross.
The experienced Dean Henderson, in goal for Forest had stopped Valencia star Goncalo Guedes from grabbing the opener before he was beating by Soler.
Awoniyi came on just two minutes after the hour mark, before latching on to a Scott McKenna pass and used his power to hold off a Valencia player, eighteen minutes after his introduction to set a goal on the plate for the lively Brennan.
