The dethroned continental champions have one more assignment in Morocco before returning to Nigeria
Super Falcons have returned to the Moroccan City of Casablanca ahead of their third-place match against Zambia at the 2022 Women Africa Cup of Nations.
Nigeria and Zambia lost their semifinal clashes to Morocco and South Africa, respectively, to set up Friday’s meeting at the Stade Mohamed V in Casablanca.
Nine-time champions Nigeria lost 5-4 on penalties to the Atlas Lionesses after forcing a 1-1 draw. The Falcons played almost an hour of football with nine women following the sending off of Rasheedat Ajibade and Halimatu Ayinde.
Zambia, on their part, suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to the Banyana Banyana also on Monday. The She-polopolo fell to a 94th-minute penalty converted by Linda Motlhalo.
It was the Zambians’ first defeat at the tournament, having won three and drew one of their four games.
While Morocco face South Africa to determine the new continental queens, Nigeria will battle Zambia in the third-place match.
The Stade Mohamed V in Casablanca hosted the game between Zambia and South Africa, leaving the She-polopolo with no travel worries.
Nigeria’s game against Morocco was played at the Prince Moulay Abdallah Complex in Rabat.
The Super Falcons are no strangers to Casablanca, though. The dethroned champions secured a fine 1-0 quarterfinals win over Cameroon at the same venue.
