An England youth international at the under-18 level, the young shot-stopper is also eligible to represent Nigeria
With a statement on their official account, Arsenal have confirmed that League Two side Crewe Alexandra have signed young Nigerian goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo on a season-long loan.
For the first time since joining Arsenal as an eight-year-old, Okonkwo will leave the Gunners to gain valuable first-team experience at Crewe.
Having impressed throughout the age groups at Arsenal, Okonkwo found favour in the sight of manager Mikel Arteta.
The Spanish tactician promoted the youngster to the first team at the beginning of last season and included him in Arsenal’s matchday squad seven times.
Okonkwo is, however, yet to make an appearance in the Arsenal first team. He will return from his loan deal next year.
The 6ft 5in stopper played football for England at the under-18 level, but he remains eligible to play for Nigeria’s Super Eagles.
